This time it is dedicated to a very special project: Café Femenino

A few decades ago, women were involved in all productive tasks of coffee cultivation, from soil preparation to post-harvest, in addition to the household work assigned to them. However, their participation was limited exclusively to labor. They had no opportunity for financial compensation for the sale of their coffee.

Café Femenino has fundamentally changed that. Today, more than 700 female producers organized through CECANOR work for the brand in Peru. The "Café Femenino" brand supports female farmers in making their valuable contributions to the family economy, improving their self-esteem, gaining respect in their households and communities, and promoting women's education in rural areas.

The high quality of the coffee produced exclusively by women has enabled the “Cafè Femenino” brand to position itself in the international specialty coffee markets of the USA, Canada, Australia, Great Britain and now also Austria.

A key factor in Café Femenino's positive development is the strategic alliance between PROASSA and CECANOR, which aims to be competitive in the international coffee market and empower women coffee producers. With this long-term vision, the alliance between the two institutions has enabled the establishment of a technical assistance program and an internal control system for coffee cultivation in northern Peru.

The purchase of raw materials for international sales is organized with strong involvement from the cooperatives. This guarantees transparency, traceability, and high product quality, as well as a trusting relationship with customers.

"Café Femenino" has now become an international model for other coffee-producing countries. Female coffee farmers in countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Tanzania, and Kenya have also joined forces to meet the international demand for excellent coffee produced exclusively by women.
