Orangutan Project

Acrid smoke rises from the lush green forest. The little orangutan senses his mother's nervousness. Danger is imminent. The smoke becomes increasingly thick, and the little orangutan can hardly breathe. Fearfully, he clings even more tightly to his mother's fur. The flames are getting closer and closer. In panic, the little orangutan and his mother flee through the treetops. Where will they go?

The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered Sumatran orangutan. The ongoing destruction of the tropical rainforests is depriving farmers and orangutans alike of their livelihoods.

The Orang-Utan Coffee Project supports farmers who manage their coffee plantations ecologically and avoid clearing the rainforest.

Therefore, these coffee gardens belong to various smallholder farmers who have recognized the importance of the rainforest as a source of livelihood. The coffee farmers of the Orangutan Coffee Project cultivate their coffee gardens according to strict orangutan guidelines, which essentially correspond to those of Swiss organic farming.

Sumatra's unique Arabica coffee thrives here. Extensive rainforests ensure the special climate where Sumatra's unique Arabica coffee can thrive. The steep crater slopes, as well as the fog and humidity of the adjacent tropical rainforest, provide excellent conditions for growing premium coffee.

CULTCAFFÈ has decided to partner with us on this project. The first batches have been roasted, and the coffee tastes simply wonderful. Our longtime friend and co-initiator, Timo Drews, is supporting us on this project.

But this coffee not only protects the orangutans' habitat, it also tastes delicious. The humid climate and mist of the Sumatran rainforests give this Arabica coffee a delicious aroma of molasses, dried fruits, and notes of cocoa and banana.
